Why – in this infinite space we call the internet – would I want to write ‘just another blog’.
In truth, I’m struggling to understand the compulsion myself.
I do enjoy reading a blog here and there on sites like MindBodyGreen – and the odd one that lands in my inbox from the marketing mavens and people spruiking their thoughts on Yoga through my LinkedIn groups – but in general, I’m not a heavy blog subscriber.
So why me, and why now?
Perhaps we’ll find out together. I have no doubt this is going to be a journey…
The inspiration for this blog came from a two key sources.
1) I’m working on creating a digital platform for Yoga Professionals and the broader community – with the aim of helping to create stronger connections and expand people’s awareness of what Yoga is (i.e., that it’s not just the physical practice you see at your local gym and most certainly not the selfies you see on Instagram).
And for a few months now, I’ve had a few things I have wanted to express… but the blog section of YogaMate just isn’t the right forum. I did post one blog on there, (which I’ll soon take off and move here) – it just didn’t feel right. That blog is for the science in Yoga. The therapeutic and healing benefits. That blog, (I hope), will make a real difference and meet people on their personal path to healing – wherever they are on that path. My drivel about life and my experience with Yoga certainly didn’t seem appropriate for there, yet I’ve continued to have this feeling that I need to be writing
2) And the final push? My 38th birthday is just around the corner. In a whim, I posted on FB that I was going to start a 30 day Yoga Challenge (including getting up at 5:30am – which for those that know me well, know how much I like a good sleep in). I knew that making it public would force me to commit. And with that commitment, I’ve had a few people asking questions here and there and I’ve thought to myself – perhaps now is the right time for me to begin to share…
So, if you’re reading this, and you’re interested in my journey, thanks for checking in. My main focus at the moment is getting YogaMate live. (It’s been 15 months since I received the idea, whilst meditating, so it happens), and there are still a few months to go before launch – so that’s going to keep me head down for some time to come, but when I have time, I’ll aspire to add an RSS feed, or social media, or something that will allow those inclined to follow my drivel.
If you’re inspired, connect with me, I’d love to hear your story over an imaginary coffee in cyberspace.
